Devlog 5 - Production week 3

Production week 3.

This week was the final part of our first production sprint. We now have character animations, more in-depth gameplay and a start screen where you can select which character you want to play.

Gameplay

Glen made a start screen where players can join with their controllers, and choose which character they want to play as. Testing the game got a lot easier now, and it feels nice to just be able to choose your character.

Sean worked on the warrior mechanics. He added actions like shield blocking, shield bashing, dodge and a spin attack. He also implemented the HUD that shows the players' health and a 'game over' screen. The enemies and warrior now have a lot more animations.

Glen kept working on the engineer. While the basic functionality was in place from last week, there was no visual indication for what the engineer actually was doing. The player can now scroll through possible recipes, and a placement preview is visible when the engineer is carrying stuff.

While trying to create the water and solid shaders we want to use in the game, Glen encountered some problems with making them lit. This means that he'll have to continue working on them throughout the next production sprint.

Art

Menio added animations for the warrior. He also created and textured the skeleton enemy mesh for our game.

The resources in the game (stone and planks) now have meshes, created by Yannis. Yannis also designed the HUD elements.

We are really noticing that progress is speeding up now, so we're excited to show you development updates in the next coming weeks. And for now, feel free to check out our latest build on the game page. Thanks for reading our devlog, and stay tuned for the next one!
